Thousand Oaks is located in beautiful Ventura County, with miles of coastline and the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The City is only 45 miles from downtown Los Angeles and about an hour from Santa Barbara. It was named after the many oak trees that grow in the area, and the city seal is adorned with an oak.

The City of Thousand Oaks is a premiere community recognized for being one of the most desirable places in all of California to live, work, recreate, and raise a family. Thousand Oaks was ranked the 4th safest among cities.

The city's economy is based on a small range of businesses, with biotechnology, electronics, automotive, aerospace, telecommunications, healthcare, and financing occupying most of Thousand Oaks' employment sector. It is home to excellent schools, outstanding parks, and a myriad of shopping opportunities, including the largest auto mall in the nation.

Thousand Oaks, CA climate is warm during summer when temperatures tend to be around 23ºC and cool during winter when temperatures tend to be around 10ºC. The warmest month of the year is August with an average maximum temperature of 35ºC, while the coldest month of the year is December with an average minimum temperature of 3ºC. Winter months tend to be wetter than summer months. The wettest month of the year is January.

Thousand Oaks is designed around travel by car, and walking or biking can be bit difficult. Some of the primary retail and commercial streets do have dedicated bike lakes, however.

Public transit options are minimal, but Thousand Oaks does offer the TOT busline, but service is sporadic and runs only every hour to hour-and-a-half. The TOTC supports local transit needs and provides enhanced customer access to destinations throughout Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles counties. 

The TOTC was constructed using "green" practices to maximize energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. TOTC is open 4:45 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The Oaks: Is a regional destination offering the only major enclosed shopping center within a 20-mile radius and drawing consumers from all over the Southern California region. In addition to retail and a luxury movie theater, there are numerous dining options.

Enjoy the Open Space: From equestrian trails, to hiking, cycling, running, walking. One of the City’s finest parks is Wildwood Park, comprised of 1,825 acres of open space and two waterfalls that flow year-round.  There are three water fountains in the park. 

The Westlake Promenade: Is a great place to shop, hang out, have dinner and see a movie. There are several restaurants. There’s also a Barnes and Noble, Bristol Farms, Sports Authority, and many boutique stores.

China Flats Hike Oak Park: Is one of the best quick hikes to see beautiful views of the Conejo Valley. You can also bike ride too.
