Richmond has a humid subtropical climate  typical of the American South, with hot and humid summers and cool winters. The coldest weather normally occurs from late December to early February, temperatures by day reach 9.7°C on average falling to -1.7°C overnight.

During summer from June to August, average high temperatures are 30.7°C and average low temperatures are 18.3°C.

The buses are the best option for public transport. All local bus transit in the city is organized under the Greater Richmond Transit Company. The GRTC serves Richmond and the adjacent counties of Henrico and Chesterfield, and makes stops at a number of the major tourist destinations. The GRTC's website has a list of all routes and destinations, as well as information about purchasing tickets before you get on the bus.

Exact change or Go-Cards are the only available methods of payment, you can find Go-Cards at local groceries and convenience stores. The GRTC bus remains a valuable and value-friendly asset to both visitors and locals.
