Houston is the largest city in Texas and the fourth largest in the United States. Everything is big, from the towering skyscrapers to the city's prominence in aerospace, oil, shipping and finance. Even the architecture makes big, bold statements, like the medical center towers that resemble two giant syringes.

A thriving business center, the city has become increasingly cosmopolitan, with an influx of diverse ethnic groups and a strong emphasis on the arts. Opera, ballet, symphony and theater are all top-notch, and museums abound. The midday heat is easily escaped inside the numerous attractions and shopping areas, particularly in the pedestrian-friendly 6.5-mile underground city.

The city also features the Astrodome, the world’s first indoor domed sports stadium. Tourism in Houston is a multicultural experience, reflecting the different peoples who’ve shaped the city.

Houston's climate generally ranges from a very hot summer to a mild winter. Humidity is high in the summer months and make temperatures feel extremely hot. The city also has a fairly large amount of rainy and cloudy days throughout the year.

The months of October to April make for the best time to visit in order to avoid the heat. August normally ranks as the warmest month at 29.2 °C and January the coldest month 11.7 °C.

MetroRail is the light rail train that runs North and South from the northernmost part of downtown Houston to just South of the Reliant Stadium complex. The route includes the Texas Medical Center and the Museum District.

The new Greenlink service started June 11, 2012, is a free shuttle service that links much of the downtown area including the GRB Convention Center and City Hall. Shuttles run every 10 minutes Mon – Fri 6:30 am to 6:30 pm.
