Santa Monica is a beachfront city in western Los Angeles County, California, United States. Santa Monica is home to many Hollywood celebrities and executives and is a mixture of affluent single-family neighborhoods, renters, surfers, professionals, and students. Partly because of its agreeable climate, Santa Monica had become a famed resort town.

Tourists visiting the Los Angeles region will find Santa Monica as one of the best situated locations to base their trip. There are plenty of  restaurant and entertainment options, as well as close accessibility to major sights like Venice Beach, Malibu and Beverly Hills. 

Santa Monica is home to a Mediterranean climate, with over 300 days of sunshine a year, making Santa Monica a popular holiday destination. The summer months in Santa Monica, from June to September, feature typically hot, sunny weather, and cool evening breezes, when temperatures drop. Summer weather in Santa Monica peaks at around 29°C  during July and August, with many fine days.

The cold season lasts from December to March with an average daily high temperature below 19°C. Rainfall is light in the Santa Monica area and is spread throughout the year, although slightly more rain falls during January and February, often quickly followed by sunshine. 

Public transportation in Santa Monica is better than in most other parts of the Los Angeles area. Numerous bus lines converge in Downtown Santa Monica. There is frequent east-west service on Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard, and Wilshire Boulevard, and frequent north-south service along Main St. and Lincoln Blvd. Other streets also have bus service, so you're rarely very far from a bus line in Santa Monica.

The Big Blue Bus is the main form of public transportation within Santa Monica. 

Not only can you get all around Santa Monica, but you can also get into Los Angeles as well. The bus costs between $.75 and $1.50 a ride depending on whether you go with a local or express route. 

At Union Station you can grab the Metro Red Line which will get you into Hollywood. The Blue, Green and Gold Lines go to other areas of Los Angeles County.

There is also the Tide Shuttle that runs throughout Santa Monica. The Tide Shuttle runs from Venice Beach to the Santa Monica Pier and within the area.

Santa Monica Pier: Known as the Western Point of Route 66. Santa Monica Pier bustles with activities and thrilling rides. Come here for a ride on the Ferris Wheel, a free summer night concert, or to simply enjoy the view of the Pacific.

Santa Monica Beach: Other than what's going on at the pier, Santa Monica Beach is one of the most popular beaches in the LA area for just enjoying the sun, surf and sand, and well as many other activities you can do on the beach or on the water.

Santa Monica Pier Aquarium: The Santa Monica Pier Aquarium is Heal the Bay’s public marine-education center located beach-level, just below the Carousel at the world famous Santa Monica Pier. Is home to more than 100 species of marine animals and plants – all found in the Santa Monica Bay. 

Santa Monica Place: Santa Monica Place has some unique shopping and dining opportunities, sometimes disguised behind familiar names. Bloomingdales and Nordstroms at Santa Monica Place both carry fashions and accessories by local designers.
