Santa Barbara is a 2-hour drive north from Los Angeles or a short hop from any corner of the world via the Santa Barbara airport. Santa Barbara's harbor is home to the world famous Stearns Wharf, a great destination for the entire family.

Santa Barbara is sometimes referred to as the American Riviera. Its beautiful beaches, majestic mountains, and colorful culture make Santa Barbara a premier resort destination.

In addition to being a popular tourist and resort destination, the city economy includes a large service sector, education, technology, health care, finance, agriculture, manufacturing, and local government. Education in particular is well represented, with five institutions of higher learning on the south coast. 

The climate of Santa Barbara is classified as dry-summer subtropical. Summers and falls are the driest, warmest times of the year, which have the most sunshine.

The daytime temperatures during this time of year are typically from 23C - 29C, with nighttime temperatures from 12C - 17C. Winter and spring are the rainier, mild times of the year, with daytime temperatures fro 15C - 19C and nighttime lows around 5C. 

The Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District (MTD) is a public transit agency providing bus service in the southern portion of Santa Barbara County, California.

Runs buses all over Santa Barbara proper, and neighboring Goleta and Montecito. 

Most buses stop at the Transit Center which is 8 blocks from the train station. 

The SBMTD also runs shuttle bus services along State St between downtown Sola St and the waterfront, and along the waterfront, leaving every 15 or 30 minutes between 9AM and 6PM.

Santa Barbara Zoo: Over 500 species are showcased on 30 lush acres overlooking the beach. Aside from spectacular naturalistic animal exhibits, the zoo also offers several play and picnic areas, seasonal educational classes and event rental opportunities. 

Santa Barbara Museum of Art: Offers a rare display of the artistic achievements of a variety of cultures and periods. Home to 27,000+ works of art, this museum houses a collection that rivals museums in much larger cities in quantity.

Santa Barbara Harbor: This is a great place to stroll, eat, shop and see the sights. Harbor businesses include many shops and restaurants, as well as the yacht club and Santa Barbara Maritime Museum. 

Santa Barbara Botanic Garden: This stunning botanic garden features a variety of habitats that focus on showcasing - and conserving - California's native plants. Across 75 acres of terrain are desert, meadow, ridge and redwood forest vistas. Throughout the year, concerts, lectures and other special programs expand the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden's educational efforts.

Santa Barbara County Courthouse: Considered one of the most beautiful government buildings in America, Santa Barbara's historic Spanish-Moorish style courthouse draws thousands of visitors each year and is actually the second courthouse on this site.
