Oklahoma's climate ranges from humid subtropical in the east to semi-arid in the west. Summers are long,  very hot and rather humid, but from mid-June onward, are relatively dry, with less-severe and less-frequent showers compared to April and June period.

July has a normal mean temperature of 28.3 °C. Winters are shorter and less severe than those of the more northern Plains states. Winters are typically cool, relatively dry, and somewhat brief, albeit highly variable. January has a normal mean temperature of 4.0 °C.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) is a multi-modal transportation agency whose mission "is to provide a safe, economical and effective transportation network for the people, commerce and communities of Oklahoma." ODOT is not an operator of public transportation services, but through its administration of these programs, financial and technical assistance is provided to Oklahoma's public transportation providers.

Public transportation is a critical element of Oklahoma’s transportation network. For the elderly and for those with disabilities, it is sometimes their only available means of mobility. In Oklahoma, support for public transportation services comes as federal and state grants. 

METRO Transit is the public transit provider with its new bus terminal downtown at NW 5th Street and Hudson Avenue. Metro has numerous routes, most of them being in the central inner city areas and commuter routes from Edmond and Norman to downtown.
