Glasgow has the second largest shopping centre in the UK. You can shop at many major UK high street stores, smaller boutiques, department stores and a wide variety of specialty shops, including craft and antique shops to suit every taste and interest. 

You will also be spoilt for choice of venues to whet your appetite for eating, drinking and entertainment and there is easy access around the city centre with a highly developed network of train, bus and underground public transport systems. 

Should you wish to explore outside the city, there is breathtaking countryside right on the doorstep, with plenty of opportunities for walking, golfing, cycling and other outdoor activities. The Scottish great outdoors is truly spectacular!

Glasgow has an oceanic climate. Like the rest of Scotland, the weather in Glasgow is unpredictable and several degrees colder than England, but the city has milder weather than many other regions of Scotland. 

Winters are long and wet, with very cold winds and some snow, with seldom a sign of the sun, but when spring arrives (between March and May) the mild temperatures and colourful flowers in parks and gardens make the city a cheerful place to be.

In summer, between June and August, most days start off misty but warm up to sunny, mild afternoons. In summer the average temperatures range between 50°F (10°C) and 67.5°F (19.7°C), and in winter the average temperatures range between 35°F (1°C) and 45°F (7°C).

Glasgow is a compact city easy to navigate on foot and built on a grid system, the region has an integrated network of public transport services for the convenience of both visitors and residents alike.

Rail: This service is operated by First Scotrail. The service runs every 9 minutes from Glasgow Central Station and the journey will take 3 minutes. A single journey to the SECC will be £1.20 with a return fare £1.50.

Tickets can be purchased in Central Station at the Ticket Desks or at the Automated Kiosks.

Subway: The subway is a circular route of 15 stations covering the centre and west of Glasgow. The route operates an inner circle (travels counter clockwise) and outer circle (travels clockwise), a trip round the entire circle would take only 24 minutes! Monday-Saturday services operate from 6.30am and from 10am on Sunday.

Close 11.30pm (Monday-Saturday) and 6.00pm - Sunday. Trains run every 6-8 minutes and all trains stop at all stations. A flat fare applies to any one journey on the subway; adult single tickets are currently priced at £1.00, £2.00 for a return.

Bus: First Bus Glasgow is the largest bus operating company in Scotland. With over 1000 buses in operation there will certainly be a service which will travel along the most appropriate route for you.

Glasgow Science Centre: Whether you are a science novice or a fully-fledged expert, the exhibitions on display are fascinating and exciting. Glasgow Science Centre is fun for people of all ages.

The Tall Ship: The Clyde River is renowned for its ship building heritage, with some of the most famous ships in the world being built on the river's banks. Visitors can tour the unique ship and sample a piece of Glasgow's shipbuilding past. The Tall Shop is located at The Riverside Museum, Scotland's National Transport Museum.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum: The museum has 22 themed galleries full of 8000 artistic delights which are sure to impress visitors of all ages. Entry into the museum is free of charge, meaning a great day out doesn't need to cost you!

St. Enoch Centre: The St. Enoch Centre is a short two minute walk from Holiday Inn Express City Centre Riverside, and provides a shopping haven for the style conscious. With shops like Debenhams, H&M, Topshop and Hamleys Toy Store, there's something for everybody at the St. Enoch Centre.

The Corinthian Club: The Corinthian is a dining and bar venue which will exceed your expectations and provide a great experience. The building itself is beautiful and elaborate, being the traditional Glasgow Ship Bank which was converted into a court building in 1929.
